Sanitation
Sanitation, Health and Hygiene Launched in 2009, Gowravam Sanitation Project aimed at achieving the 6th Sustainable Development Goal of providing Individual Sanitary Latrines ( ISLs ) to the poor households in Narasayapalem village in Bapatla Mandal, Bapatla District of Andhra Pradesh.
The project ensured the sustainability of the intervention by encouraging community ownership, developing linkages with local government, and encouraging local entrepreneurs to supply low-cost hardware, etc.
By 2011, 620 ISLs were constructed and handed over to the beneficiaries.
Gowravam Sanitation Project has garnered much interest not only in the neighboring villages but also in other districts, particularly for the Community Led Total Sanitation approach adopted in implementing the programme.
