COVID-19

2020 - GF actively participatesin COVID-19 Relief Activities

When all of 2020 passed in a haze of lockdowns, new deadlier variants, the race for vaccines, hospitalisations, and deaths, Gowravam Foundation undertook relief activities serving as thoughtful stewards and catalysts – fundraising, obtaining/ cross verifying lists of migrant workers for Grocery Bags and Journey Food Packs distribution, coordinating relief distribution to inmates of shelter homes, etc.

It was a deeply humbling and learning experience that left us with ennobling thoughts. We had reached out to 51,467 migrant workers and their families and several other needy people in myriad ways.

Flood Relief Activities

September 2024 – Floods in Vijayawada, Khammam

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States experienced the most destructive floods in recent history due to excess rains and depression in the Bay of Bengal. Several low-lying areas were submerged, and roads went underwater.

In Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada, and the surrounding villages nature’s fury left a trail of destruction by way of severe flooding and landslides that caused widespread infrastructural damage. Roads and bridges lay ruined. Homes and Businesses were destroyed. Cars washed away.

In Telangana, Khammam district experienced torrential rains, and floods that left ravaged villages, submerged buildings, and currents so strong that trucks and cars were washed away with people in them. Elderly people, pregnant women, and children, young and old – all left homeless and shelterless, with no belongings or food to eat.

The Government machinery, the NGOs, and volunteers from across both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States rushed to deal with the disaster on hand and reach out to more than 4.5 Lakh people who were affected.

Gowravam Foundation in consultation with the district and relief authorities extended support by sending home-needs kits to the people in distress. With the generous support of donors, a large number of bedsheets, towels, bathing soap, and detergents were packed with the support of volunteers and friends. These Disaster Relief Kits were bagged, transported, and distributed to scores of affected people at Vijayawada and Khammam.
